ELDICO Scientific, a Swiss deep-tech instruments, systems and service company, was founded in June 2019 with the aim of filling a gap in the market: a dedicated instrument for determining the three-dimensional structures of nanoscale materials, previously unmeasurable. The need for such an instrument has become more and more evident in related research in the last couple of years, and the founders could not let such a great opportunity go unseized. Since its founding, ELDICO Scientific has been an advocate for an improved approach to nano-scale research. Rightly so, because the potential of the emerging total available market for an instrument like the one the company proposes adds up to an impressive EUR 10 billion, with more than 8,000 potential customers in the global pharmaceutical, agrochemical, energy and academia sectors, to name a few.
ELDICO ED-1: FIRST UNIT STARTS OPERATION IN BASEL

ELDICO ED-1, the electron diffractometer from ELDICO Scientific is going to be installed and taken to operation in February 2022 in Basel. Here, in one of the centres of the global pharmaceutical industry, the groundbreaking device will be operated by specialist personnel for a consortium of academic and industrial users.

Swiss Innovation Forum 2021, Switzerland’s biggest Innovation event, taookplace in Basel on the 18th of November. ELDICO presented its brand new electron diffractometer, the ELDICO ED-1 in the Future Expo.
Organic samples measured succesfully

Eldico ED-1, the dedicated electron diffractometer proves, with readily available experimental data, that even under ambient conditions, challenging samples such as organics can be structurally solved, leading to equally good or even surpassing results from previous research.
IUCr Conference in Prague

Between the 14th and 23rd of August, Prague hosted the 25th IUCr congress. ELDICO joined as a gold sponsor, discussing about the great potential of electron diffraction for crystallographic research, with tremendous influence on various day-to-day applications. We also displayed our instrumentation model there.
EU Seal of Excellence

Proud to have been granted the European Commission’s Seal of Excellence: an award aimed at recognizing the disruptive innovations that can change the future of research. The seal exclusively certifies a small number of high-quality proposals running for HORIZON2020 funding.
First sample measured

ELDICO’s unique dedicated electron diffractometer – the world’s first – delivers proof-of-concept on real samples by solving its first structure ab initio. We successfully perform initial measurements on real samples in the previous week.

First light

Significant milestone for ELDICO: our engineers succeed in getting the first light on our alpha system, followed by some nice diffraction patterns a couple of days later.
R&D 100 award recipient

ELDICO Scientific receives the award for “the development of the electron diffractometer, selected as one of the 100 most technologically significant new products of the year in the analytical/test category.”
Venture Kick: scoring a hat trick and receiving further investments

The award-winning Swiss deep-tech start-up beats its Venture Kick competitors for the third time in a row and wins 150,000 Swiss francs. Venture Kick is one of the largest Swiss start-up support programs, annually enhancing innovative companies with investment funds in a competitive three-stage process.
Succesful funding round

With additional funding of almost CHF 1.5 million, raised from private and institutional investors, ELDICO’s product development gets a boost. In addition to several industry-savvy private investors from Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands, the company’s backers also include the Aargauische Kantonalbank (AKB) and the Swiss start-up promotion organization Venture Kick.
World-famous scientific advisory board assigned

ELDICO Scientific appoints a first-class Scientific Advisory Board consisting of pioneers in electron crystallography. Five outstanding representatives from science and industry now support the company in developing its electron diffractometer.
ZKB Pionierpreis

ELDICO Scientific takes second place in the Pionierpreis competition. We have thus outdone more than 30 competitors from the Swiss start-up community, all of them excellent candidates and competitors, and cashed in CHF 10,000 prize money. Priceless: the large public attention.
